With exclusive access to previously hidden diaries, family and camp survivor accounts, and recently declassified files, critically acclaimed and award-winning journalist Jack Fairweather brilliantly portrays the remarkable man who volunteered to face the unknown in the name of truth and country. This extraordinary and eye-opening account of the Holocaust invites us all to bear witness.Occupied Warsaw, Summer 1940:Witold Pilecki, a Polish underground operative, accepted a mission to uncover the fate of thousands interned at a new concentration camp, report on Nazi crimes, raise a secret army, and stage an uprising. The name of the camp -- Auschwitz.Over the next two and half years, and under the cruellest of conditions, Pilecki's underground sabotaged facilities, assassinated Nazi officers, and gathered evidence of terrifying abuse and mass murder. But as he pieced together the horrifying Nazi plans to exterminate Europe's Jews, Pilecki realized he would have to risk his men, his life, and his family to warn the West before all was lost. To do so meant attempting the impossible -- but first he would have to escape from Auschwitz itself...

Thank you for sharing the story that was not told for many years. The sacrifices made by people fighting human atrocities should be honored and remembered. A Rebel in Auschwitz: The True Story of the Resistance Hero who Fought the Nazis from Inside the Camp (Scholastic Focus) PDF Kindle Online pdf Great book. Worth waiting for. PDF A Rebel in Auschwitz: The True Story of the Resistance Hero who Fought the Nazis from Inside the Camp (Scholastic Focus) ebook online Quite an in depth and saddening look at the Germans killing of so many. And the story of one man who tried to make a difference and bring on an uprising volunteering to be in the concentration camp. It was a good and very educational book ePUB A Rebel in Auschwitz: The True Story of the Resistance Hero who Fought the Nazis from Inside the Camp (Scholastic Focus) epub online Presently I’m teaching English Language Arts in sixth grade which is for students who are 11 and 12 years old, this is published by Scholastic and is marketed to children age 12 and older. This is an adaptation of a book written for adults called The Volunteer. There are 248 pages of text and after that is an appendix and the bibliography.I feel that the reading level, length of paragraphs, and vocabulary is too difficult for 12 year olds. In the last two years I have taught seventh and eighth grade and for my students this would still be too difficult to comprehend, also due to requiring much more background knowledge to understand the meaning. The story’s pacing is slow compared to what today’s youth are used to reading and consuming in video format in their lives in 2021... if a book isn’t catching their interest, if they feel that is intimidating, if they don’t understand some of the vocabulary words, and if they lack the background knowledge to understand the gist, this is a recipe for giving up on reading the book, sadly. This spring I will be teaching about The Holocaust to my sixth graders and I was hoping to use this book in my class in some manner. I was unfamiliar with the story, this is a true story of a Polish underground operative who went to Auschwitz to gather information to be used against the Nazis for war crime evidence.I think this is an important book but good and engaged cooperative readers in high school seems to me to be a better reading ability level.I am supportive of any book that seeks to educate today’s children about the Holocaust and genocide and will rate this 4 stars as an important book but was tempted toward a 3 as I’d like to think the adaptation could have been written differently to grab and hold a 12 year old’s interest and to then educate and inform them. (PDF) A Rebel in Auschwitz: The True Story of the Resistance Hero who Fought the Nazis from Inside the Camp (Scholastic Focus) What I am finding out as I get older, there is a LOT of history (and other subjects) I was not taught fully. What do I mean? There are things I am learning about from World War II that my teachers didn’t cover, they glanced over the Korean War (which is still “active” in a way), among other things that don’t quite “make the grade”. There are some areas of government I didn’t even know.Books like this, while designed for the younger crowd, help expand the history lesson. They provide glimpses of the most horrific incident in history, and put faces to the victims. This, to me, is written as if it is a fiction book while maintaining more of a textbook feel. This has pictures, as well as information about the incident and main character – Witold Pilecki. I had never heard of him until this book was made available. It is thoroughly researched and well presented. Has a lot of facts that might be omitted from history books and gives younger readers an “inside” look at the conditions and treatment of the Holocaust victims. Is this appropriate for 12-year-olds? Not in my opinion. There is some QUESTIONABLE language in the book, one term is B@ST@RD, as well as what could be considered “taking the Lord’s name in vain” (for those who are Christian). Some of the conditions and pictures could also be disturbing to some children.I would say that this is probably more appropriate for 15-17 year-olds. In appropriate for anyone under 12. Those 12-15, read with parents or use as a teaching tool instead.
