I wasn’t sure what to expect since the premise is hard to explain. The stories are classic but with fun twists. Think super edgy Bachelor meets Love Is Blind romance but with all the drama you want from a soap opera or reality TV. Since this was written as a periodical and the episodes were originally published one at a time, the story constantly switches between POVs. This switching adds a lot to the anticipation and scope of the narrative yet doesn’t detract from the story.When we started getting the men’s POVs I squealed. I was so afraid that the men would be a bunch of creeps, and while some are intense, Madam Alana would not allow anyone with bad intentions to enter her auction. The women are all fun and different and it’s fantastic seeing them all navigate this intensely dramatic situation. The only negative is that there are a lot of stereotypical names and themes that show up in the characters and writing. I wish there was a little more nuance with these aspects so I wasn’t shaking my head going… of course their named _____ and do _____. But on the flipside, it makes it easy to keep track of tall the characters when you know what you’re getting up front. I couldn’t give up on these crazy, fictional couples if I wanted to… and I don’t! The Marriage Auction: Season One, Volume One Kindle PDF Online epub online I read the first chapter of this series for free on Amazon, and I wanted to buy the book -- but I was unwilling to buy into the Vella by-the-chapter system. I was glad when the book became available as a regular book.I enjoyed the book. The female characters were well written; their backstories and reasons for joining the Marriage Auction were layered in detail and believable -- their ups and downs, their fears and hopes. I enjoyed reading the ladies' point of view. I enjoyed the twists thrown at us by the "candidates".The male characters were another kettle of fish. Said bluntly, the male characters could easily have been replaced by a cardboard stand-up. First, if this Marriage Auction were a real thing, the bidders wouldn't have been 20-30 somethings with washboard abs, great people skills and a desire to make the women's lives perfect; no, if this were a real thing, the couples would've been something akin to Anna Nicole Smith and that old geezer she married. Said differently, the men presented in this novel would've had no problem attracting a mate on their own and would not have been reduced to bidding for a wife. Nile was the most realistic, as he made it clear exactly what he was looking for. That these men would instantly jump into their new fiancees' drama is just not believable.The book is simple and predictable -- it would make a nice beach read.Finally, as is so often true these days, the grammar in the book could use some polishing. The author doesn't understand the difference between was /were, and I refuse to believe that the Pennington brothers (who certainly graduated from Cambridge or Oxford) don't know how to use reflexive pronouns and antecedents correctly. I could not put them down at all, I started with volume 1 and did not stop reading until volume 4 was done. These books are an absolute must read, you can not go wrong with this series or any series by Audrey Carlan. This series grabs you buy your heart and will not let you go, it makes you want to read more. I could not believe how fast I read them and I still want more. I started this series when it was coming out chapter by chapter on Kindle Vella and loved it and then when it was published and the extra chapters were added, I was like how could this be better, it was. She has a way with her characters that has you rooting for them from the first page. I laughed and cried with each character and wanted to hug them when they struggled. I can not say I had a favorite couple because I truly loved them all. Dakota and Sutton, Savannah and Eric, Faith and Joel, Rudy, Noah and Nile, Madam Alana and Christophe are the main characters throughout the volumes and you can not like just one of them, because they all are so amazing. You get brought into their world and you want more. You want to see them get the happy ending that they so truly deserve.
