Ok I want to start by saying that I hardly ever write Amazon reviews! I'm absolutely guilty of reading reviews before choosing to purchase, but I don't recall ever writing one before. In trying to describe the true "awesomeness" held within these pages, I'm certain to fall short...but I'm going to try.I am recommending this book to EVERYONE in my life. It's true and honest, and so incredibly relatable. I can feel her awkwardness and anxiety in dating. I've been there. I can relate to her feelings of trying desperately to cling to her Faith values while meeting dates in the current dating culture of casual hook-ups. I've been there. Her desire to be less "30-something and still single and more "on the way to the altar with Mr. Perfect/Forever," is soooo incredibly relatable. I think most of us have felt similar aches in our hearts at one time or another. I certainly have...if you're a young Christian single attending a Christian school/college and haven't achieved the expected goal of engaged or married by graduation (or before) you will absolutely relate to Jen.I laughed until I cried...then I laughed some more! If this book doesn't reach you where you are in one way or another, I'd be shocked. Regardless, you will have a great time laughing your way through this gem!!Jen Carlson - if you're reading this review I want to THANK YOU for the laughs, and for your vulnerability as you share your story. Jen does such a great job of entertaining and teaching, sharing what she's learned about herself and God in a brilliantly transparent way.When you read a phrase you wish you'd written:"Drunk on sugar and bad ideas""activewear that had yet to be active""nothing screams "hashtag cool girl" and "Friday night rager" like a bottle of Tums and stack of school supplies.""You know when you see lovers' names carved into a tree? I don't think that's cute. I just find it strange how many people have knives on a date."Jen coins the term "compartmentalized confidence" and explains her self assurance when training adults about facial muscles or directing technical workshops, but lacking it in other areas, mainly with men. I have to say I felt seen by that phrase, as I too have specific areas in my life I am 100% confident, and others where I am FULL of doubt.The financial journey in this book can't be understated. The choices Jen makes and the insight she shares are legitimately inspiring, and I don't say that lightly. In addition, the health discoveries are equally entertaining and educational. Her choice to share intimate details (and funny gym stories) is brave and something we can all learn from. When you get to the part about the tree near the end, you too might well up with tears, or at least get a little choked up.I won't give any spoilers, but I loved the three lines on page 200 that start with "In that moment I knew who the real winner of our dating challenge was ..."Last, this:"Before the dating challenge, I reserved 'showing up' for someday. Although I could not connect to the dating scene, or being single, or young....(I really didn't fit the crowd the book was intended for) but I could relate to the struggles of insecurities, self-doubt, and keeping my relationship with Jesus real.
